Getting Back into the Swing of Things!

So school has begun and so my life has become boring once again! I have to admit the month break was very nice and I was able to rest up and rejuvenate myself so I can make it through these next 4 months:) Here's what this semester's schedule is looking like:

Social Work Practice
Social Work Research
Public Services Administration/Supervision
Practicum
Treatment of Trauma
Play Therapy

I'm pretty excited about the play therapy and treatment of trauma, there were so many classes I wanted to take this semester so I had a hard time narrowing it down. The first 3 listed are required so I had no choice. I attempted to get permission to do 18 credits but was unsuccessful...it's probably for the best! I have made a goal to try to do more of the readings required for each class. Last semester I got to a point where I just didn't have time to read. So in order to maintain this goal I have designated Wednesdays and Saturdays as my study days (unless there is something really important going on!) I feel like once I get through this semester, summer should be a breeze!

Things at my internship are getting pretty crazy...We are getting ready to move to the new Riverton agency which will be located in the church office building out there. We went to take a tour last week and I'm pretty stoked for a few reasons, two of them being there is a workout room and cafeteria. (free exercise and cheap, good food!) My responsibilities have gone beyond what a normal intern would get to do. One of the caseworkers just had a baby and I have pretty much taken over her whole caseload. Because the church still has a hiring freeze we have to make things work while she is gone, which means I may possibly get to work with some birthmothers! I am excited and grateful for all the experience I am getting at my internship:)

As for my other goals I am doing better about cooking more at home! I have been looking for a good brocolli and chicken recipe and think I finally found one. We had it for dinner tonight and I think I will definitely be adding it to my list of recipes I will use again! Eating at home helps Steve and I save money to do other things we like to do rather than just eating out:)

I have thought more about the marathon and decided to give it a go! So I will be registering to do the Utah Valley Marathon on June 12! Updates to come as to how training is coming along. I am also trying to recruit some people to do it with me (besides my dedicated sister Andrea, of course) but I won't mention their names until they are officially signed up!! Wish me luck! This week is going to busy with both fun and not so fun things so I will post about all that later!

from end to beginning!

Well 2009 now has come and gone and here are some of the ways we finished out the year:
-Steve and I both finished fall semester and each ended up with all A's with one A-, not bad! I'm so excited to be done with school and can't believe there are only two semesters left...hope I make it!
-Jen and Allan (sis in-law and bro in-law) came to town and we finally took the opportunity to do a session at the Salt Lake Temple, it was my first time in the Salt Lake Temple and it was great! It is so beautiful inside and I love the feeling I had being there! Our temple session was followed by dinner at the Lion House with some of Steve's family:)
-We spent Christmas Eve with my family eating, playing rock band and watching a movie. It was so much fun singing and playing around with everyone, Skyler and Ellyit were so cute. When the boys were setting up the game Ellyit knew exactly what was happening and went straight for the microphone and started singing in it! We spent the night at mom and dad's so we were there for Christmas morning. We opened presents and ate a delicious breakfast!
-Christmas day we headed down to Dee's (Steve's dad) house where we ate a yummy dinner, opened presents and then headed off to watch Sherlock Holmes, which we really enjoyed!
-The day after Christmas I went to lunch with my good friends Nicole, Janae and Michael. It was so nice to catch up with them:)
-Steve and I flew out to Texas on Dec. 29. Funny because our flight was delayed due to weather, an hour later we took off and right when we landed in Dallas it started snowing, random!! We must've brought the snow with us:) Our Texas trip consisted of spending a lot of time with family, it was so great! Our nephew John Robert is getting so big and is full of energy, his little brother Asher is a very laid back cute baby and just loves to watch John Robert run around! We are lucky if we get to see some of Steve's family more than once a year so it was nice to be able to go to Texas!

2009:
-Got in and started graduate school at the University of Utah
-Started internship at LDS Family Services where I do adoption work and clinical counseling.
-Trained for and ran a half marathon with Andrea and Jeff

Here are some of the very few pictures I took this year... please refer to goals for 2010!

HALLOWEEN @ Garrett and Christine's place!

Steve looking hot in his guido get up! (Christmas party at Stacie and Brandon's)

Of course because it's the beginning of the year I felt the need to make some goals for myself. I know that goals don't necessarily have to be accomplished but should be used as a guide to keep us on track and we can change our goals if needed. With that said, I have set quite a few goals with the idea that at any time I can change or remove them!! My main goal is to constantly be setting goals for myself! (not just at the beginning of each year), wish me luck! I'm sure I will think of more after i post this....

Emily's Goals for 2010:
Learn new recipes, cook more at home and not eat out as much!
Get my house more organized and get rid of things I really don't need
Make it through school and graduate:)
Spend more time reading and spending time with family rather than watching TV.
Take more pictures!
Focus more on the Savior and learn more about the gospel:)
Up my temple attendance
think seriously about and possible run a marathon

where have you been?

well it's hard to believe 4 months have gone by since I've updated this thing. we had a fun summer! We got to take a trip to DC and visit Jami, Manu and the kids as well as check out all the tourist stuff:) oh and we were able to see our friend Carissa and her cute family! two of my best friends came out and so it was awesome to hang out with them and play catch up. After training all summer, andrea and I (along with jeff) finally ran a half marathon! I felt very accomplished that day, but haven't run much since:( School has started for the both of us and after a month and a half I think I'm just about getting the hang of things again. Although some days I definitely wonder why did I go back to school? I know once I'm done it will be worth it. I'm currently interning at LDS Family Services and enjoying it. I am working with adoptive couples, birthparents and have a few clients I do counseling with. So pretty much my days consist of internship, school, studying and commuting, Boring!! I definitely try and give myself a break on the weekends to maintain my sanity. Andrea and I are thinking about training for the SLC marathon that's in April, so that will help to make life just a little bit busier. One of my life goals has always been to run a marathon and i'm thinking now is probably one of the best times to do it. we'll see what happens!

26!!

This may be kind of long since I never get around to this thing!!
Yesterday I celebrated my 26th birthday and it's hard to believe how fast the years have gone by!! I don't look really look like I am 26, in fact I probably look about 16 going on 17. But I was very impressed yesterday when a random person guessed how old I was turning and he said 22!! I was pretty excited that I might actually look not like a teenager!! it was a wonderful birthday and I was glad to get to spend the whole day with Steve. We started out the morning watching my niece Skyler play at her soccer game, followed by lunch with the family at Paradise Bakery (one of my favorite places to eat!). After lunch Steve and I along with the ladies of the family (minus Jamilyn) went to the mall so they could all buy me gifts. It was kind of stressful being followed by 5 people trying to find things I liked, but the trip was successful and am happy with the what we found!! Thanks fam!! After shopping Steve and I headed back home and I took a birthday nap. When I woke up we decided to go take a stroll through the canyon. It was such a beautiful day and the weather was perfect, it was wonderful just to be out enjoying nature. We went to Jamba afterwards where I finally ordered one of their secret (well secret to me, i guess) flavors pink starburst, i highly recommend it! Evening activities included getting beat by steve at putt putt, getting beat by steve at hoop dreamz (whatever it's called) and finally beating steve at skee ball. Ending the Trafalga experience on a good note!! Afterwards we went over to Brandon and Stacie's and played Dr. Mario on the Wii into the wee hours of the night. I have decided we should invest in a Wii to have at our place, Dr. Mario is becoming somewhat of an addiction for me, I just can't stop playing!
My birthday allowed me to think about all the years that have come before this one and how lucky I feel to be where I'm at today with such a wonderful husband, great family and awesome friends! I am so blessed to have everything I do and so happy with the life I have. I hope to make this year of my life better than all the rest and continue to do that with every year after!

Quick Update on Steve and I:
Steve is finally done with the semester (besides one paper)!! But of course keeping himself busy with work, side projects and working on things around the house he previously didn't have time to get to. It is so nice for him to be able to get a break from school and so nice for me to see him get to relax for a moment! He works so hard and I am so proud of all he does.
I am literally counting down the days for work to be done (26.5 days!!) Getting a little anxious/excited/nervous about going back to school! Stoked about our seven peaks passes and getting to play this summer with family and friends! and especially looking forward to our trip to DC (maybe NYC) in July! oh and of course ecstatic about two of my best friends coming to visit this summer, Betsy and Ester!!!! woo hooo!!

Spring Break!!

well I'm finally on Spring Break! it seems like I've been waiting for this week to come for a while now. Even though I only got one day off of work, it's been so nice. I've spent most of my spring break hanging out with family. Thursday after work I drove up to Andrea's to watch Skyler and Ellyit for the night, so her and court could have a night out. Skyler had a friend over until dinner time and then we ate macaroni and cheese with chicken nuggets while we watche Bedtime Stories! ellyit was in bed by 7:30 and I let Skyler stay up til 8:45. I hope this changes when I have kids but I woke up probably at least once or twice every hour just to see if i could hear ellyit crying. paranoid or what? both girls were up by 6:50 AM and skyler got ready for school and finished the movie. ellyit and I got to spend some quality time watching Baby einstein, eating toast and yogurt, and her pooping in the bath tub! pretty exciting. I went to lunch at school with Skyler and then played rock band with court! Me, Jamilyn, Mel and And went to the mall to shop and then I headed home to hang out with steve and some friends. This afternoon we went to Cracker Barrel with the fam to celebrate birthdays, it was yummy!! and now i'm just slowly cleaning the house and hanging out until my coworker's wedding reception!

TIME

i've come to realize that yes, time flies when you're having fun but that's not the only time it flies!! For instance, time sometimes flies by when i'm at work i'm busy but no necessarily having fun! or when i'm cleaning the house before i know it hours have flown by but no fun was had! just a completely random thought i just had.

some highlights of this past week that did involve fun include the following: Steve got inducted into yet another honor society, this time it was Phi Kappa Phi. We got to go to the ceremony which was held at UVU. It was a good time, good food and good company. We sat with one of Steve's professors. I'm so proud of all the accomplishment steve is making while attending UVU. that night we celebrated John's birthday with a good 80's movie and some skittles!(unfortunately i had to go to bed early to wake up for work on saturday) Saturday night we played volleyball with a bunch of friends again and amazingly enough I think i'm actually starting to improve on my game! Yay!
Sunday we celebrated John's birthday at Dee's house which involved some yummy chocolate cake! (funny i normally don't prefer chocolate cake but i always end up eating over there)
tuesday night andrea came down with the girls to eat some sushi! well skyler and ellyit pretty much watched andrea and i eat, but i promise one of these days i will get skyler to try sushi and she will like it!!
tonight i will watch the office and it will make me laugh and time will fly by fast and i will wish the show was an hour long and not a half hour:)

HA HA!

well it looks like the whole once a week thing didn't really work out so i guess we'll shoot for once a month. this month has flown by and I can't believe it's almost over. the past couple weeks have been super busy with work, school and play!! Steve was inducted into the Golden Key Society at UVU. we had the big birthday bash for nikhil and ellyit. it was fun to have the whole family together for a couple of hours. Steve and I got to go walk through Draper temple with our friends Brandon and Stacie (and of course Brody). This past week the weather was so nice, I loved it and i feel happier. On Friday we made homemade pizzas, they were yummy! Then the boys played 007 and us girls went and checked out Downeast Outfiitters. Yesterday we got together with some friends and had a barbecue at a park and played some games! unfortunately it was a little cold so we packed up pretty soon after finishing eating. But the fun didn't stop there!! we all went to a church building and played volleyball:) it has been probably over a year since we last played, we were all so excited, we played for about 2 1/2 hours! the result: i was sore today! i'm not very good at volleyball but I feel like i'm getting better and i have alot of fun playing!!
