Valentine's Day Weekend

Ummm... What better way to celebrate Valentine's weekend than to go listen to one of the best marriage therapist's in the country. Yep, that's what we did. John Gottman is a well known marriage therapist and has written several books and has a clinic on the west coast. I actually had to read one of his books "7 principles to making your marriage work," in my freshman psychology class. At the time I was annoyed I had to read it because I was 18 and marriage was not in the near future. However I learned a lot from the book and look forward to reading more of his stuff. I heard about the Gottman conference months ago and Steve was interested too but tickets were $45. We couldn't afford it and just left it at that. A couple weeks later I found out student tickets were only $20 so we thought we should jump on the opportunity (one good reason to be a poor college student, discounts!) So we spent February 12, listening to John Gottman speak. It was very helpful for me because I do a lot of work with couples and personally I learned a lot about myself and things I could be doing better! I am very stoked we were able to go and it was fun to have Steve there with me! Later that night my parents took us out to Olive Garden for dinner, good times!

Saturday was a pretty exciting day for Steve and I! We bought our first piece of furniture:) Since we've been married other people have been nice enough to give us their old furniture or buy us new furniture but this was the first thing we actually went and picked out on our own! Wait I take it back, we bought a small table for $20. But you get what i mean, first big piece of furniture! Steve's mom gave us a change counter for Christmas 2 years ago and ever since we have been collecting our change! We were constantly thinking of ways to spend this change and kept forgetting about it. Well the old D.I chair in our front room lost a leg and we had to lean it against the wall so it was supported enough to sit in, ha ha, scary! We finally decided we would use our change to buy a chair. So we headed over to RC Willey and started looking around and found this Lazy Boy that matches exactly with the couch Steve's dad bought us. We both sat in it and loved it! Of course I was nervous to make a big purchase so quickly, so we walked around the store for a bit and finally I rationalized the purchase. The chair was $200 off and when we walked in we got a scratch coupon for another $25 off, so it was meant to be! Oh and we got a $60 knife set for $5 with our purchase, I know, pretty sweet! One of the benefits to Steve being in the Honors program at UVU is I get to tag along on some of the events they get tickets for. Over Valentine's day weekend they had tickets to the Symphony, two people decided not to go, so Steve and I got to go! The show we saw was Dvorak's "New World" Symphony. I really enjoyed it and was amazed with how beautiful the music was! I really enjoyed the pianist, well actually I loved it all:)

Brand New and Manchester Orchestra!

Steve and I enjoy going to concerts together but now that money is a little tight we have to be very selective of what we get to go to. I saved some of my Christmas money to get tickets to go see the bands Brand New and Manchester Orchestra. The concert was a couple weeks ago and I really enjoyed it! Here our some photos from that night! In my attempt to take more pictures this year I got maybe a little too camera happy! Oh well, makes for good practice, right!?

Skyler's Baptism

My niece Skyler turned 8 on January 27 and had the opportunity to get baptized. I was excited for her and can't believe that the day for her to be baptized has already come and gone. Skyler is my oldest niece and was the only one for about 4 years. I have so many fun memories of spending time with her and am constantly amazed with what a great person she is turning out to be. When Skyler was maybe one she came and spent the night at my apartment with my roommates. She stayed up so late with us and she really enjoyed it when my friend played his guitar or when we played music she would just dance, so cute!
Right after I graduated Andrea and Court were very nice to let me stay at their home during the summer while I was working. During this time I got to hang out with Skyler a lot, take her to her day care, she would come in the room and wake me up and sing cute little songs, I loved it:) Skyler is not perfect but what child is and plus it'd be boring for the rest of us if she was perfect. The wonderful thing about being an aunt is I get to enjoy the nieces and nephews usually when they are happy and can turn them over to the parents when they're not! Skyler is a helpful, thoughtful big sister. I love her so much:) I am so proud of her for making the decision to get baptized!
